Day One

You gotta love this stuff, early morning (7 a.m.) wakeup calls, interviews and warm weather. Just ask my mom how much I like to wake up in the morning!
Forgive me for saying this, I heard ya’ll got pounded with snow today, but it’s actually kind of chilly in Arizona, like 45 degrees and overcast. It’s weird, but I’m wearing a jacket.
We met with a bunch of players and coaches this morning and to little surprise, all of them are calling for a physical game come Monday. TCU is going to run it. BSU plans to stop it and somewhere in the mix two or three huge things will change the game. If BSU can force two turnovers, hold TCU to fewer than 200 rushing yards, I think they stand a good chance. Every time TCU tallies over 167 rushing yards they win (40 consecutive victories).
Joseph Turner is a big fella, 225 at tailback, like Doug Martin’s big brother or something. Andy Dalton has bright red hair and such a calm demeanor.
I’m starting to find tons of similarities between these two squads, from the 4-2-5 defenses and precise quarterbacks to their very attitude and comeliness. They are good people, on both sides.
And boy are they serious!
I haven’t seen Kyle Wilson and Jeron Johnson this focused this early ever, ever, ever. And they surely need to be. If those two guys are to help this team win, they have to win their individual battles and help out the other fellas inside. Johnson is the hardest hitting safety in BSU history. Wilson is a corner with more upside than a brand-new nickel.
This is such a huge game and we’re taking it all in. We have to. It’s like soaking up Idaho August sun. Either you do it, or you get burned.
I love talking to offensive linemen, big Marshall Newhouse from TCU was just such a pleasant talk. The guy is massive and polite and you just plum don’t want to anger men like that. Just wait for the game and look at the offensive left tackle. There’s a reason this guy spoke today, was one of four guys who spoke today. He is valuable. He is big and so good.
I gotta get going. We’re checking out the stadium and podcasting from there. Yup!
