SMASH!
Post Published: 14 November 2009That’s Winston Venable crushing Brian Reader on the nickel blitz just as the quarterback threw the ball, but Venable’s disruption forced a wobbling duck that Aaron Tevis intercepted. It’s was reviewed. Venable started coming inside, then curved around the left guard with a clear path to Reader, a Jarring hit. That’s an interception and a fumble recovery for Tevis.
Pettis to the Post
Post Published: 14 November 2009That was so quick. BSU is running the ball just fine now, going into the wind, opening huge holes for Avery (36, 7, 12 yards). Moore hit Pettis to tie the single season touchdown record. He now has 13 on the season. 35-10.
Back in the Saddle?
Post Published: 14 November 2009The Broncos just keep moving. The defense forced Idaho to settle for a field goal and then promptly drove the ball 80 yards on nine plays, topped by some wildcat running by Jeremy Avery and a goalline plunge to take a 28-10 lead.
There is some really dirty stuff going on out there. I’ve seen a dozen headslaps, saw a defensive end dive at Moore’s shins, spotted a receiver stomp on the crotch of Kyle Wilson. It’s rough, but that’s rivalry.
End First
Post Published: 14 November 2009Wow! I can’t help but be excited for this game. BSU is just cruising up and down the field. If not for the two turnovers, Idaho is as well. Idaho is driving again into BSU territory as the first quarter concluded. BSU leads 21-7. Kellen Moore (9-of-10, 101 yards, 3 TD) is nearly perfect. Woolridge just won’t go down and Reader is making tremendous audibles at the line. Now Idaho has the wind at its back.
Night and Day
Post Published: 14 November 2009How different are these two teams? The Vandals put together an impressive drive all on the ground. The Broncos answer with a 6-play drive all through the air. Kellen Moore was perfect:16, 10, 12, 4, 16 and the 8-yard TD on a slant to Pettis. The touchdown ties Pettis for No. 2 on the BSU career touchdown mark with Ryan Ikebe with 27 touchdowns.
Answer
Post Published: 14 November 2009The Vandals Just did.
Emphasis of the drive? How about the running game? Eight consecutive runs, 79 yards, topped by a DeMaundray Woolridge 29-yard run on fourth and one! Gutsy call, but Akey had to do it. Woolridge carried the bulk on the drive, but split time with Deonte Jackson. 14-7.
Circus
Post Published: 14 November 2009Two Idaho drives, two turnovers. Two BSU drives, two touchdowns. The Broncos have only ran 6 plays, all in Vandal territory.
That was Iloka on the PBU, Acrey on the INT, Moore to Young for 25 yards, a couple of sick blocks as he cross the field, Pettis sprung him free and Titus took it to the right-front corner of the end zone.
Pettis was incomplete on the 2-point conversion, an attempted jump pass just out of the reach of Richie Brockel.
It’s fun that’s for sure. This is quite possibly the most exciting four minutes of football I’ve ever seen.
For those of you NOT watching on ESPNU because they lost the feed, just follow along, we aren’t going anywhere.
Turnover
Post Published: 14 November 2009Pretty simple. It’s loud and Brian Reader got a little nervous on third down, fumbled the ball away and Aaron Tevis (getting the start at Will Backer) recovered the ball.
BSU ran this weird formation with Jeremy Avery, Matt Kaiserman and Doug Martin all sharing the backfield! That’s too funny. One of them has to get it.
But look again at Austin Pettis, with that fade right. That’s a touchdown again, now in every game this season.
And man do those Broncos like to go out to 8-0 leads. They ran that swinging gate again and this time ran a quick screen to the right, Pettis to Kyle Efaw, who stretched across the goal line to convert the 2-point attempt.
I guess ESPN just lost its feed, so we are on hold. Kills the momentum.
Whoo!
Post Published: 14 November 2009Gotta love the U.S. Army! Helicopter fly-overs are just so cool.
There is this huge B in section 123, made out of orange T-shirts against the Bleed Blue field. Looks kind of cool. There is a brisk wind blowing across the field from the northwest. Last night’s snow gives the Foothills a salt-and-pepper look. The Vandal Fight song! The Bronco Fight song!
There is nothing like this.
I bet the field is a little slick, we’ll see how the footing holds up. The field turf consists of millions of tiny rubber balls. When they get wet, the field lets feet slip. Watch those double moves by receivers and tailback cut-backs.
This is going to be loud and should surely live up to the billing.
Pre-game
Post Published: 14 November 2009Forty minutes remain before the opening kickofff. It’s a nice mix out there of Boise State and Idaho fans, co-mingling in the parking lot with general politeness. The players warm up on the field.
For those of you who’ve never been to a game: the quarterbacks and receivers run routes, play catch and the kickers practice on the wide sides of the field.
The Bronco squad just came out to stretch as a team, huddling in this mass of blue. I think I saw Jason Robinson jump onto the hopping crowd, packed so tight Robinson just surfed for a moment.
Nathan Enderle is listed first on the depth chart and he looks like he may actually play, but he’s not taking a lot of reps in warm-ups. Instead of tossing it on the deep routes he’s just feeding Brian Reader and Logan Bushnell. I bet he’ll play, but who knows.
